WATERLOO WATER BY-LAW
The Water Conservation By-law is in effect from May 31 to September 30 annually.
By following the Region's Water Conservation By-Law 07-069 (and amendments), which limits outdoor water use to specific days, you are helping to reduce peak water use and limit the risk of an outdoor water ban.
Watering days are based on the last digit in your municipal address / house number.
All watering must take place between the restricted hours of 5:30 - 10 a.m. and 7 - 11 p.m.
Lawn watering day:
Once-per-week lawn watering during restricted hours is based on the last digit in your municipal address / house number:
If your address ends in: Your lawn watering day is:
0 or 1 Monday
2 or 3 Tuesday
4 or 5 Wednesday
6 or 7 Thursday
8 or 9 Friday
Other watering activities:
Based on the last digit in your municipal address / house number, homes with even-numbered addresses can water on even-numbered dates. Odd-numbered addresses may water on odd-numbered dates within the time restrictions. Other watering activities include:
- Residents are permitted to irrigate gardens, trees, shrubs and other outdoor plants on alternate days.
- The washing of cars with a controlled hose (with a shut-off valve attached).
- Topping-up of permanent residential pools
Newly planted sod/seed lawns:
- Residents with new sod and seed must obtain and post a permit from the Region by calling 519-575-4495. This permit allows watering any time for the first 24 hours after planting, followed by 6 consecutive days during the time restrictions and then on alternate days for the second week (day 8 through to day 14) during restricted hours (odd days for odd numbered addresses and even days or even numbered addresses).
Nematode applications:
- Prior to the treatment of nematodes, residents must call 519-575-4495 or email watercycle@region.waterloo.on.ca with name, address, phone number and date the nematode treatment will be applied. Proof of purchase must be made available upon request. Upon application of nematodes, watering is then permitted any time for the first 24 hours and for a 6 consecutive calendar day period immediately following the first 24 hours between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. and between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
